Devon's Lifeboat Heritageby Nicholas Leach |
|
Devon has two long coastlines and both present serious hazards for shipping. The first private lifeboats were in use in the first decade of the nineteenth century and after the RNLI was formed many more stations were established around Devon’s coast. Eight are still operational. This book recounts the story of all of Devon’s stations, past and present, and of the boats that served, and still serve, them. Many heroic rescues are described. It is illustrated by 117 photographs, historic and modern, many of which have not been published before. Nicholas Leach is an editor with Ships Monthly and this book is a companion to his Cornwall’s Lifeboat Heritage, also published by Twelveheads Press. ISBN 978 0 906294 72 7. 52 pages, 117 illustrations in full colour. A5. £4.50 Buyers outside the United Kingdom need to add £4.00 per book towards the extra cost of mail.
